Typically around this time every year, I would be preparing and entering works into the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council's Juried Exhibition, an annual show that showcases selected works by artists from all over upstate NY.
This year will be a little different... I am honored to have been asked to be the selection juror for LARAC's 2022 Juried Exhibit - Lost in Time & Space. It's a new position for me to be in but not a new experience; I've put together many juried exhibitions over the years, developing criteria for exhibitions from the regional to the national level, working with selection and award jurors from across the country to provide fair and objective jurying processes. I know it's never easy for the selection jurors, but I am so excited to be on that side of the exhibition planning for LARAC's popular juried show. I am so looking forward to seeing the entries and helping put this show together! And as a perk of being juror, I get to exhibit a couple of my own pieces...still deciding on which ones to include. I love the theme this year - it's really expansive and open to so many creative interpretations. To learn more about the exhibit and how to enter: https://larac.org/lapham-gallery/ Thursday, October 6, 10am-noon Mountain Gallery, 21 Bay St., Glens Falls, NY Cost: $25 person, due at registration. *UPDATE - This workshop is now full, but more workshops have been scheduled at Caldwell Lake George Library. CLICK HERE for more info on workshops at the library. I have decided to offer my very first watercolor workshop for adults, after having quite a few people ask me if I offer lessons in watercolor. This is a first for me, and a little out of my comfort zone, since I've only run kids art workshops in the past. I'm really excited about this new challenge and am looking forward to sharing some of what I've learned over the many years I've been painting in this medium. Painting in watercolor can seem intimidating for many artists, but it doesn't have to be. Striking a balance between controlling the medium while allowing the paint to do what it wants to do is key to creating watercolor paintings you can be happy with. I will offer a few ways and techniques to help participants work towards that balance in a relaxed easy setting. Participants will practice watercolor technique to learn some of the magic of the medium, then will apply these techniques in creating their own watercolor painting of an autumn lake scene from a provided photo reference. I will work with each artist through the process, with tips on how to handle composition, color and brushwork. Supplies needed: Each participant should bring a set of watercolors either as paint cakes or tubes, a watercolor palette tray, one 1/2" flat brush and one #5 round brush. I will supply watercolor paper and some additional paint. Any questions on supplies, please reach out to me through my contact page. |
