Sometimes I photograph different stages of a painting I'm working on - it's kind of interesting to look back at the images to see where various areas of the painting came to life.
The colors in the 3rd and 4th images are not accurate on the right hand side of the painting; the lamp at my painting table reflected on the still wet paper and made the images look a lot more golden brown than the painting really is. Final result is the image at the bottom; the colors in the image more accurately match the actual painting.

The first part of the New Year has me busy in my studio, finishing up commissions and getting a few new pieces ready for a group exhibition I'm organizing at LARAC Mountain Gallery opening February 23. Each of the artists will show 6-8 works exploring the theme of Here & There, inspired by motifs/subjects/scenes both close to home and farther away. I'm excited to exhibit with these nine fantastic artists: Ann Larsen, Gary Larsen, Sue Beadle, Ron Mattia, Jill Murphy, Cindi Handy, Pamela Stendardi, Eden Compton, and Fred Holman. The Opening Reception is on Friday, February 23, starting at 5pm at LARAC Mountain Gallery, 21 Bay Street, Glens Falls, NY. Entrance to the gallery is actually on Maple Street facing City Park and Crandall Public Library. Gallery is open Wednesdays-Saturdays, 10am-3pm. In addition, a Closing Reception will be celebrated on March 29, commemorating both the end of the exhibit and the end of LARAC’s time in this additional gallery space at 21 Bay Street, Glens Falls, NY. The theme of Here & There is explored in each artist’s selection of works, interpreted literally or metaphorically; some pieces are inspired by motifs or scenes close by, while other pieces are inspired by subjects or concepts farther afield. The works in the exhibit offer visitors to the gallery a variety of genres, stylistic approaches, and mediums to take in. Each artist demonstrates a recognizable artistic voice, honed after years of devotion to their art practice. With the closure of LARAC’s Mountain Gallery, I will be switching gears a bit, going back to working at LARAC’s main location, at 7 Lapham Place in Glens Falls, NY, helping the organization continue to expand its programming and workshop experiences. More about LARAC programs, exhibits, festivals, and workshops can be found at www.larac.org. Here & There Artist Statement Much of my work is deeply inspired by the aesthetics of the natural elements and landscapes of the Northeast. Although I paint representationally, I approach my work with an eye to more abstract qualities, harmonizing atmosphere and movement with form, color and line. Bringing what I've learned in painting the light, water, rocks and trees of our region to understanding and interpreting similar elements in places further away is excellent practice, challenging me to keep learning and growing as an artist. It is one thing to simply depict a mountain or a lake or a tree or a building, but to truly integrate the light and atmosphere of a painting, to provide a sense of place and time, the emotion of the moment, that is the elusive quality I will keep chasing the rest of my painting life Below are all the works I will be exhibiting in Here & There. Every two months I will select a couple of paintings to pull out of their frames and offer them up at special prices. Once the two months are up, the paintings go back to their original full pricing, and two different unframed works will become available in the Unframed Deals. Here are the paintings I've chosen to offer for March/April 2024: #1 - Like A Song, 8"x10"" watercolor, unmatted $200 #2 - Drifting, watercolor/pen&ink, 4"x5" matted to 8"x10", $50 If you are interested in either of these paintings, please reach out to me through my Contact page. Prices include shipping, but 7% NYS sales tax (if applicable) is additional charge. Like many artists, I have a bunch of flat files sitting in my studio, unframed works that just haven't found the right home yet. And like many artists, I'm offering an end-of-year special sale on those unframed paintings, to encourage folks who might enjoy them for their own homes and those who are looking to purchase a gift of art at really affordable prices.
I'll offer these nine specially priced paintings in the grid below through the end of the year to December 31. Click on each image for full details on size, medium and price. All prices do not include any applicable sales tax, but shipping/handling is included if you need the painting sent to you (US only). Local deliver/pick up can be easily arranged as well. Some of the paintings come single matted/backed, with most to a standard frame size. Details available by clicking on image. To order and arrange to purchase, use the form on my Contact page to reach out to me. Or, if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, feel free to DM me. The annual Holiday Shop in LARAC's Lapham Gallery opens Friday, November 17 and will run to December 23.
